Manipulation (High Velocity Thrust)

What Is Manipulation?

Spinal manipulation — sometimes called a High Velocity Thrust (HVT) — is a precise, controlled movement applied to a specific joint that may produce the familiar ‘clicking’ sound. This sound is simply the release of gas from the joint fluid and is completely normal.

Is It Safe?

Manipulation is safe when performed by a qualified, registered practitioner following thorough assessment. It is always explained and discussed beforehand and is only used where clinically appropriate. Serious adverse events are very rare.

Who Benefits?

Particularly effective for joint stiffness and acute back and neck pain. Not appropriate for everyone — I always assess suitability before using this technique.
